Default rounded head bolt...

sigh.. so i'm taking the head off of my b18b, and the head bolts are on there tight as hell.. so i slide a breaker bar onto the end of my ratchet and try to muscle them loose and the socket slips or something and rounds the head bolt.. any help or suggestions on getting it out?

how badly did you round the bolt head? What kind of socket were you using? 12 point, 6 point? If you were using a 12 point socket on a 6 point bolt head its a better idea to use a 6point. A 6point has alot more gripping force then a 12point.If need be hammer the socket on, but if you actually stripped the bolt fairly well then i would recommend what DFW had posted.

i tried what he posted and i still can't get the things out.. i got 8 of the 10 head bolts loosened, but these last 2 for some reason i can't even loosen up.. i've been using a 2 foot breaker bar and they won't even budge, and now when i try to use a bar or something similar, it just slips off sideways..

like what ARC said 6 point will give you the correct clamping force on the bolt you may have to hammer it on depending on how rounded the head is. i believe it is a 14mm socket. just clip the extension on and drive it onto the head

you are more likely to strip a bolt with gradual increase of force so you might want to try and impact gun to break it loose.

I don't know how good of an idea this is but if you reinstall the other 8 bolts and torque them a little tighter than specs wouldn't it make the other two loosen easier - just an idea I got, let me know what you guys think - oh yeah when you tighten\loosen the rest I would use a good 6pt socket also

when removing bolts of any kind try using a propane torch to loosin everything it helps most the time if not drill and tap the head of the bolt in the opposite direction and impact thqt bitch out

heat would most likely be useless on head bolts considering how long they are. I would use drilling as a last resort as you don't want that type of debri in your engine.
