I'll try this here, too.
What are everyone's thoughts on the best pad/rotor combos for the track? I got sucked into some misleading information from the Powerslot/Hawk Brake Pad websites about better-than-stock gear for HPDE's, and destroyed a brand new set of rotors at the track last weekend, as well as had lousy brakes the entire time.
I had gone to the Hawk Performance website for research, and when I looked up pads in the "Motorsports" category, the HPS line and model number is what they gave me for my car ('01 Integra LS). After going through the entire pad in one weekend of HPDE, with lousy brake response, burning up the pads within a millimeter of being on the backing plate, and completely destroying the brand new Powerslot rotors, I emailed Hawk, and they are telling me now that the pads I bought are specifically NOT for the track. They won't even discuss my track use with their pads, but they did want to know how they performed on the street. I told them the truth...much greater stopping distances, lack of any security in panic stops, didn't really develop any braking force till they had a little heat in them, etc. Anyone else have bad experiences with this rotor/pad set-up?
I'm hoping the rotors can be salvaged. From reading many other posts close to this topic, and so many different opinions on slotted rotors vs. solid blanks, it's really hard to determine whether it was just the wrong pads for the type of abuse I was putting them through, or whether the rotors weren't really designed for being on track.
