Default Rod knock or piston slap????

Ok guys, I have 14k miles on my rebuilt motor. I built that motor with some help from a few friends. Benson did the bore and hone and had one of the Arias 8.5:1 pistons to check the piston/wall clearance. Im also using Crower rods. I also have floating wrist pins.

The problem is that Im getting this ticking noise. It has alwasy been present in the motor since day one. But as of recent it has been getting louder. I dont really feel any loss in performance either. If Im under light load (15 in/mg) its the loudest. If I put the car under a load it will dissapear. It will not tick under de-accel either. Its just their under light to medium load. Any ideas as to what it woudl be. No real oil consumption either. I know that I need to do a compression check. I will get to that this weekend. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Bored.......how big? Did you increase the headgasket to that size!?!??!

My old man did that with his big block (back in the day) and it was headgasket slap

Arias pistons are known for excessive piston slap during warmup because of its silicone content. Had them in my FROG and it sounded like a diesel engine sometimes.

btw, what p/w clearance you use with what bore ?

well i think i found the problem. I pulled my dipstick and took a nice whiff of it. Its smells like good ol 91 octane. Time to tear into her again! Sheesh....
I got a good chance to really give it a listen with a tube to the ear, while probing at different locations of the motor. The ticking seems to be coming from the head. Must be a really loose valve or something. Guess I know what Im doing this weekend.

forged pistons obviously slap. especially when cold due to thermal expansion differences when warming up and they still slap a bit when warm due to the tolerances to compensate for such thermal expansion. its really a guessing game...its realy hard to get it perfect when hot, they always, in my experiencs sound like tiny diesels. my old y7 was SICK WIT IT....hard to con people with that sound....
