rod knock..
well i know that this is whats happening to my block. i am just curious as to what exactly goes wrong inside the block and can it be fixed. Can i just buy new bearings and have those put in and solve the problem? thanks in advance guys!
p.s. i have a 2nd gen B16 with CTR pistons

Drop the oil pan, pull the crank out, get it micropolished, and throw new bearings up in there.
What happened before it started the knock? Low oil pressure? Detonation?

rod knock is mostly caused by bearing tolerances being too big.
the only bearings you can really change with the engine in the car are the rod, take out the oil pan and resize/change.
In order to change the main bearings your going to have to pull the motor since the crank needs to be out.

thought so.. i believe my tolerences for the bearings weren't right. im just curious if it fixable but im just going to put a stock b16 block in my car so i dont have to worry about it. when this happened i was cruising at like 50 in 5th gear which really sucks b/c i wasnt even driving the car hard, anyway, im going to take the block out tomorrow so ill be taking a look inside. thanks for the info guys
If you have a rod knock, unless you have to have the car for a race or something important--take your time. Pull the block out, clean it--you might need a new crank--as it is cheaper (usually) to get a used replacement than grinding the original down. DON't run the car--break it down immediatley.
oh trust me im not driving the car. the most i've done since this happened was pull it in my driveway. i just don't want anything to go wrong that will mess up my head. if nobody buys the block the way it is im sure ill take it apart and see exactly what went wrong but i just dont have the time right now.
