Ring lands !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What would cause the ring lands to crack in a JDM H-22 '95 that always had the proper oil level? What would be the indications of a cracked ring land when the engine was running?
Let me bring you up to speed on the problem. I had the H-22 put in at a reputable shop(or at least I thought it was reputable). When I picked up my I was driving home and it did not seem to have the pick up that my other H-22 had. It seemed to struggle under hard acceleration ( not drag racing just merging into the highway or passing at highway speed). I took my friend for a ride and he said the same thing. I called the shop that put the engine in and explained to them the problem their responce was that it needed a new chip and to be dyno tuned at a cost of $600.00 additional to what they charged to install the engine. Why didn't they tell me this while installing the engine in the first place? Was my first question.
I continued to drive the car while putting the money together it is my only means of transportation. About three months later I was driving and the front seals blew out. I had the car taken to another shop that could get it fixed in the time frame I had. When they replaced the seals and started the car up it continued to smoke. So they took it apart and found that the ring lands were cracked in #3 and 4 cylinders. They told me that I had nothing to do with what caused the problem. Because the only thing that causes that was the use of forced air induction i.e. turbo, nitrous or supercharger. None of which did I ever have on my engine. The engine was used that the shop installed. I am trying to find the truth as to what happened

The same shop put the first H-22 I had in the car. I have no idea what ECU was in the car. It is my understanding that the first H-22 was a JDM and that they replaced the ECU with the one that came with the engine when they put the first engine in. Now wheter they replaced the ECU when they put the second engine in I have no idea. Wouldn't a knowledgable shop know to make sure the ECU is compatable? After all they knew the history of the car and the engines that they installed?
I don't have any idea the shop got the engine. That is why I don't believe that it needed a new chip or dyno tuning. I believe the motor was unhealthy when they put it in. But they won't admitt to the fact or even say that it could be.
