Ring break in while running rich?
I am rebuilding my boosted B18C5 at home and I am dropping in some lower compression wiseco pistons. The compression is dropping from 10:5 to 9:5 which i figure will cause the engine to run rich. My question is would this cause problems when trying to seat the rings or not because my tuner is about 20 miles away from my house and according to some people the rings would already be seated after 20 miles.
Also, I am installing a brand new act clutch kit which from my understanding requires atleast a 500 mile break in which would keep me from being able to get the car tuned right away as well as keep me from being able to do a "hard" break in. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it.

The clutch is a friction surface just like your brakes. Do you baby your brakes for 500 miles after you change them? Of course not. A proper engine break in will break in your clutch and flywheel at the same time.
hmm thats an interesting point but iv never heard of doing a brake pad break in and iv always heard that a clutch requires a break in period even from the clutch manufacturers...

"Take it easy" basically means, don't bog the engine and don't shift at WOT...or in other words, don't beat on it yet. As you progressivey take your engine to higher RPMs with more throttle your clutch and flywheel will break in.
Bedding in brakes is pretty much the same thing. You make a set number of progressively harder stops from higher speeds.

so bottom line, I need to know if I should just drive the car up to the tuner shop after the first startup and just seat the piston rings that way even with the car running a bit rich or not? Its about a 20 mile drive and i can take the feeder roads instead of the highway to avoid constant rpms....
thanks again

ok so best thing would be to just tow it to the shop and start it up there for the first time and let my tuner adjust the airfuel while the car is idling during warm up then go ahead and do some pulls on the dyno to seat the pistons and eventually start tuning?
Ok Im finally done putting the car back together but id like to know if it would be ok to start the car and let it idle until warmed up and then shuting it off, just to make sure everything is ok before getting it towed over to my tuner or if that would in any way cause problems with the new rings?...

Except they'll probably be tuning on those first pulls, too.
