Default Reverse locking up?

I am up at a buddys shop right now. He just installed a LSD in a customers car for them with new side bearings, also his bellhousing half of the Tranny was cracked so he replaced it with a F series bell housing. Back half and all gears were still the customers H23 trans.

Problem is: When the car is in reverse and he pushes the clutch in the tires locks up right away and stops the car hard. ever once in a while in neutral you get a slight noise, grinding almost but not a bearing noise, more of a gear noise.

The only thing I can for see is maybe he put the reverse gear upside down? I can't think of anything else? He swears he checked the wear pattern to make sure everything lined up correctly but what else would cause this?

Probably going to pull the tranny out soon so any advise would help. Ideas?

Default Re: Reverse locking up? (N20civicB18)

Just for anyone who searches in the future - The washer/spacer and wave/tappered washer he put back on the top of the Countershaft instead of the bottom (bell housing side). We put the washers in the correct spot, reinstalled and no problems.

It was very wierd, Engine power could make the car drive in reverse very easily but as soon as you pushed the clutch in the tires would lock up. With the clutch in and it in reverse you could push it foward but not in reverse, every other gear was fine.
