Default no reverse!

i just bought a del sol vtec with no reverse! the last owner said the car was stuck in reverse, his son then kicked the shifter to get the car out of reverse. it shifts fine through all the gears, except of corse rev. which when you try to engage, there is nothing there. a firm stop, just like looking for 5th gear in a 4spd. some one please help. i have the trans out and the case in two.

The chewed up inside of the sleeve made the sleeve unable to slide over the 4th gear synchro so I couldn't shift into 4th. Just check the sleeve and synchros and wouldn't hurt to check the shift fork also while it's apart.

Well if it's anything like an L3 tranny (which I assume it is), there is no synchro/shift fork like the rest of the gears. Reverse is alone with a small fork to control it. The only way you're going to be able to diagnose the problem is to crack the tranny open and take a look. If you don't hear any metal noise now, nothing was broken likely. It may just be out of place, jammed together, or many other possibilities.

i have the tranny in two, and i see the reverse fork, i think? from what i can see reverse is alone, and controlled by the reverse fork. when i shift the trans manually the linkage never moves the gear on the shaft. should the gear move on the shaft? or is it pressed on?
