Default reusing oem headbolts

do u need to torque them a little more than usual because of stretching or is it the same...
also my motor is a b16 and the first time i took the head off i retorqued all the bolts to gsr spec...when putting it back on should i torque them to gsr specs again or stock b16...just askin cuz i dont wanna end up having one of them start to back out after a while....thanks

It's ok to use them again.Treat them just like new ones and use oem torque and sequence.Torquing them more than stock will stretch them.

i know its ok to reuse them...ive already reused em twice...its just that the last time i redid them i torqued them to the GSR specs and not the b16 specs...the gsr requires a few more lb/ft so i was a little concerned whether or not i had stretched em out or not

Lay the threads against each other and see if they all line up. If they're stretched you'll see it quite easily, if they mesh together perfectly, they're not stretched.

A wise man learns from his own mistakes but a genious learns from the mistakes of others.

Meaning, getting a broken head bolt out of a block is neither easy nor fun. If you're going to be re-using your head bolts a lot it's a good idea to buy ARP head studs.

i feel that...but after i put the head back on this time i dont plan on taking it off again for another year or so when i do a full 1.8 build and at that time ill go with the ARPs...i just dont wanna buy them now and then they be useless when i get the 1.8 block...ima go check em out and see if they stretched...thanks for the replies guys...late

You guys should only re-use the ones that are designed to be re-used......Those are the ones with the spiral shafts that are sold at the dealer.....Good Luck

sometimes you don't want to pay for new headstuds, as was the case for my LS motor I put in because my previous motor blew. If you need to worry about the head lifting because of pressure or something, I would go with either new bolts or headstuds.

i have no idea what your saying...

my main concern is that the last time i torqued them down to gsr spec and not b16...the difference is minimal but the gsr requires more torque than the b16 ...i want to know if i should retorque them back to gsr spec this time or stick with the b16 spec...i wonder how much of a difference there really is since the torque wrench is never 100% accurate
