Default Resonator Vs. Hi Flow Cat

Simple question.. is there a real difference between a resonator and a hi- flow? In terms of performance.. airflow.. and sound? Its a stupid question but after confusing myself with enough searching, I figured I'd ask.. I've never had either one.. I've only ran with a stock cat.. and later..straight pipe..

resonator basically quiets the exhaust down, cat converts some molecules (forget which ones) into hydrocarbons, basically environmental crap. You can take the resonator out and nothing will happen just get louder exhaust.

well i'll be running a stock DC5S muffler (for stock look and silence).. with kteller piping.. since im doing a swap.. theres gonna be a gap where the stock cat used to be..... i durnno if running straight pipe w/ that muffler would burn up everything inside the muffler.. (your opinions would be nice)..

I would run a hi-flow cat, it will make your life alot easier with the po-po's (if they do a visual inspection) It won't hinder power that much if that is what you are after. Without a cat no matter what muffler you put on there it will be loud. It will be basically like the sportsman class at the drags. Have big v8 with those collecotor mufflers on them and yet are still loud as hell. I know its a v8 and all but the same principals apply.

Just throw the cat on and if its still to loud cut a section of pipe out and put in a resonator.

good call.. i think thats what im gonna end up doing.. emissions isnt strict in florida.. im just wanting decent power and maybe a little louder than stock.. but after debating i think your opinion was wisest..i 'preciate it [=

the resonator will get rid of tons of the rasp and so will the cat, they both play a huge part in the sound of the exhuast, if I were you. I'd get a 2.5 hi flow cat and a 2.5 resonator, having both will not effect the flow very much, there both hi flow, a resonator doesnt restrict very much AT ALL so you might as well go with both and have a nice quiet exhaust setup.

its not a bad idea.. but for the sake of money.. i think im gonna look at what Dave's got at SMSP.. (which cost about the price of both combined..) but its quality stuff.. either that or just a simple magniflow.... i think my stock cats burnt out now.. but i only need it for about another month and a half.. and in with the h22
