Resistors
I am looking for easy power on my 97 EX and wanted to know if the resistor that you put on your IAT sensor really works for getting more power? If so how do i do it? Also will it trigger a check engine light?
If it's too good to be true...
If something like that really worked, do you think people would spend hundreds of dollars on cams and pistons and all the crap we buy? Of course not, we would be putting resistors in our sensor plugs and fans in our intakes.

It's placebo. Resistors cost less than a dime, and you can pay dollars for them over ebay. So they make money of stupidity.
The mod is supposed to make the car think you're in a certain weather condition all the time, thus changing your engine's air/fuel mixture. That's all it does. And you want the mixture to be set by the ECU, not a resistor. So in turn, your tuning gets all screwed up.
However, there are ECUs out there that offer more "power." I say "power" cause it is doing nothing to the power of your engine, just changing the way the engine works to get more juice out of it. There are things like auto-AC shutoff during high power demands that make replacement ECUs useful. Some can even be configured with a laptop, but those are expensive. However, cold, hard parts are much better for power than any ECU will try to equal. And always keep this in mind: no aftermarket ECU will have the reliability and engine management control than the stock ECU. Honda developed and produced ECUs for their own engines. It was made the way they should be made so that the engine will run the way it should run.

I am new to these motors but not to making power. I had my doubts about the resistors, but what i am looking for is the best power for price parts for my 97 civic EX 5spd. I just got my car about a week ago and so far I have a cold air intake on the way. I have been told that a header and straight pipe 2.25 into my stock muffler is going to be a good setup for a low quiet sound.(Any input?)
