Resetting ECU with VAFC and various little problems.
Hey just bought my car so I dont know much. 1994 JDM EG9 Civic Ferio with B16a2 (lol im from New Zealand). Anyways I've been having some little problems.
1. I have a dropping idle. When the car is warm and I pull up to the lights, it idles fine at around 800rpm but randomly say once every 15 seconds the revs will drop to 400rpm for a second or too and go back to normal. What is causing this? IACV? Fast idle valve? Leaky vaccum lines? Bad enlarged TB butterfly?
2. Once in a while cruising at low rpm 2200rpm, say in third gear I lightly accelerate and theres a split second of missing and then it goes fine. It's all good at high RPM though. Happens only sometimes, not all times. Any suggestions? Plugs? Leads? Dizzy? Fuel filter?
3. For the above problems I firstly want to try resetting my ECU and my car is also running a VAFC version 1. Will pulling out the ECU fuse change or reset my VAFC settings?
4. Also my VTEC is set to 4500rpm as thats what the old owner said was best. Im sure this is too low. Will I have to change my VAFC fuel settings etc if I set the VTEC back to stock?
Here is my engine mods to give you guys an idea:
Ported and polished head.
HKS filter and intake pipe.
RSR 4-2-1 extractors into 2 1/4" mandrel bent exhaust.
Enlarged throttle body.
Apexi VAFC.
Other than that im sure the engine is stock. Done 98000kms (dont know that in miles
)
You guys are pretty onto it. Im sure someone can help me out. Im a VTEC n00b
Cheers

To answer number 3, no your vafc settings will remain the same
To answer number 4, take it to a dyno and find out what the best point is, as far as resetting goes, if I bought the car used and the owner told me the best point is 4,500 , I would reset the vafc settings back to stock because who knows what the previous owner did.

Thanks I will look into it. So set it all back to 0% correction?
I will reset the ecu and see if I still have an idle problem.

Well im just resetting the VAFC because I dont trust the previous owners self tuning. Its running like at -9% correction at idle and VTEC set at 4500rpm which i feel is too low. So for now i will initialise the settings to be safe for the mean time. Im sure it will be ok with my mods.
I regards to the idling problem I reset my ECU and now it idles a bit lower and more steady but still drops sometimes. I will try cleaning the IACV and also check the idle valve.
However I am getting a problem misfiring at low rpm... around 2000rpm under load. I put my foot down to about 20% throttle and the engine sounds like its missing and a bit hesitant but once it climbs to 2500rpm+ it goes fine. Might have to check the plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor, etc. Surely its something to do with ignition. The other day I got a mad electric shock when my car was on. I just touched a lead and it must have arched or something? Maybe faulty lead is my problem?
So yeah my problems havent been resolved. Just tackle one problem at a time.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

well theres your problem get rid of the hack and get a chiped ecu,or if u got the money go all out and buy a EMS. IMO
i had all kinds of problems with my hack too it would make my car do all kinds of weird things untill i took it out in favor of a chipped ecu.i havnt had a problem since.
BTW i didnt know people still use them hacks systems.
