You could, but you'd have to replace the mainshaft as well.

You'd have to change the entire cluster gear, and even if your existing gears (other than the ratio you want to change) were the same as the others on the new cluster gear you'd really need to change them as well because they won't be bedded into the new gears on the new cluster gear. Once a gear cog is bedded into it's partner gear you shouldn't ever change one of the two gears, i.e. never mate a used gear cog with a new gear cog or two used cogs from different boxes together. You can do it, but the gears are likely to be noisy and wear much more quickly (and probably more likely to fail in hard use).

My understanding is that only very specialised racing gearboxes allow the changing of an individual ratio (i.e. take out any pair of mated gears and replace with another pair of mated gears with a diffferent ratio). With a less specialised box I think you'll be restricted to whatever ratios may be available as complete sets.

From what I understand, 1st/2nd are an inseparable, and 3rd/4th are also an inseparable pair. So, if you wanted to change 2nd gear, you'd also have to change 1st gear along with it. 5th gear is all on its own. So many people go with a 5th gear from an Integra LS to get lower RPM on the highway.

The real authority on Honda trannies is James Ornelas at Gearspeed Transmissions in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The website is http://www.gearspeedinc.com. He can answer all your questions.

They built my ITR tranny and swapped out 5th gear and the final drive for ones from an Integra LS. My 1st through 4th are still ITR gears.

That must mean the cluster gear is in fact two cluster gears on a common shaft?

Forgot to mention the lonely 5th gear, stuck out the back all on it's lonesome...

No, you are completely wrong. I am currently running this transmission with zero problems
1st = 3.25 vx
2nd = 1.762 vx
3rd = 1.25 ex
4th = 1.0333 zc
5th = 0.878 zc
final = 4.058 dx

arrojj, you will need to replace the mainshaft as well if you want the shorter itr/b16 2nd gear of 2.105. You will not need to replace the countershaft.

You will not need the countershaft.

Had to happen eventually! I suppose that's what I get for pontificating about a particular gearbox that I'm not familiar with!

ok just to make sure, so in order for me to have the itr/b16 2nd gear i would have to replace the mainshaft with the main 2nd gear and that means i would also have to get the 2nd gear for the countershaft, right???
This is the gear ratios i want to have for my gsr transmission

1st:3.23
2nd:2.105
3rd:1.625(from mfactory)
4th: 1.296 (mfactory)
5th:0.787 with a 4.785 final drive which i already have with a ITR LSD
Keep the input coming and Thanks for the advice
