Default Replaced Distributor, cant get timing right!

I replaced my Distributor, cap, coil, and rotor, but now I cant get the timing right. Just when I think I got it the Car backfires when I put it in Gear. How do you TDC if the marks are no longer visible also?

It keeps the ecu from changing it while you set base timing. You're setting it to the red mark right?

Timing marks off by a 1/4 inch. TDC is Correct and the Distributor is all the way right

My pointer is broken off. I got it close to where it should be, but the car continues to back fire.
