Default Repairing Syncro's

My third gear grinds a little when shifting hard from 2nd, and especially at high RPMs.. I'd like to take care of it before it gets too bad, so what would you guys reccommend?

A fried of mine said something about Syncromesh from a GM dealer? The car is still under warranty to, so if all else fails, i could use warranty.

well if your car is grinding third most likely your 3rd gear syncro is bad

since your car is under warranty i would just take it to the dealership and have them fix it. Using syncromesh just disguises a problem until later

by using syncromesh you will eventually have to get it replaced just not as soon
which could be bad for you because then you may have to pay for it because it might be out of warranty by then

i say just get it fixed and be done
a warranty is a warranty, it should be free so use it while you can

Definately have it replaced under warranty, that's what you have it for right?

Let me guess, you drive a US Civic Si (Cdn SiR)? This is really common on those cars.

There is a product update for grinding 3rd and 5th gears. The dealer will replace third and fifth gear and use updated syncros. (they have a grey coating of some kind on them, supposedly some kind of carbon fibre composite) We just did one at work, and just the parts alone are about $1000 for the update.

If it is still under warranty, why are you even considering anything else?

And using the GM fluid could void the warranty on the tranny, depends on how **** the dealer is. I know of some that would void your warranty because of it.

Wow, i was unaware of a fix for the Syncros using the carbon fiber and all. I'll have to ask my honda techs at the dealer about that and request a fix. Thanks man.
