Default removing tie rod without touching locknut

outer tie rod - correct me if im wrong but cant you leave the locknut alone, remove the ball joint, twist the arm off, twist on a new one?

does that make any sense?

well, to loosen the rack-side of the tie rod, you'd have to spin it counter clockwise, which would tighten the ball joint-side. Well, that's how it is on an 89 prelude. So I'm not really sure, but I know you can't do it on mine.
