Default Removing Crank Pulley bolt

How the hell can you get the crank pulley bolt off?? I'm trying to do my timing belt...and I'm stuck.

I tried an impact gun on it...no luck, sprayed it with some pb blaster, then impacted it...nothing. I don't have a strap wrench, and the motor is out of the car.

none of the local parts stores carry a strap wrench.

what else can I do.

A VERY long bar. I used the handle off the floor jack & stuck it over the end of a breaker bar... btw, you might have to lower the engine to get it off (you do on mine, but then again I have an H-series)

This is what I did...
if you are using an air gun
use **short quick blasts** on the max setting
**Don't hold the trigger.**
Make sure the compressor is completely full
make sure you have max PSI
if you need more.. find the little black regulator box..
open it..and crankdown the screw with the spring on it.
BE VERY CAREFULL this will increase the pressure in your tank.. make sure that it doesn't exceed the tanks pressure limit..
otherwise you will be in the E.R.
then try again...
short quick blasts

-or-
since your engine is out.. take it to the local garage... ask them to blast it off

-or-
go to honda and see if they will sell your the big hex nut tool to hold the pulley..
try the gun again

I don't know if this is a good idea, but it would work. Hydrolock it.

Uhhh, don't hydrolock your engine, bad idea. In the crank pulley there should be some holes inthe pulley itself, stick a screwdriver, a strong one, and then get like a five or six foot long metal pole, attach to the end of the wrench and pull down with a constant force. This should break it free, the engine is out of the car, you may need someone to sit on the engine, or secure it it some way. It's what I had to do......have fun.

If your engine is on a jack, use a big A breaker bar and and even bigger cheater on top of that. I then bolted the crank to the engine stand via a strait piece of aluminum. like this:
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/jjeffm/vwp?.dir=/My+Photos&.srch&.dnm=cheater+bar+part+2.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3 a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/jjeffm/lst%3f%26.dir=/My%2bPhotos%26.srch%26.view=t

I also needed some one to stand on the engine stand to keep it tipping over. Other than that it came off rather easily.
It's image 18. I don't know how to post pics so sorry for the crazy url.

Yeah, I tried the impact gun first, but it didn't have enough oomphh. OH yeah, I tore apart the engine for a complete rebuild for FI.

ah...buy the moroso or OEM Honda Crank Pulley holder tool. The Honda one is expensive ( $130) or Moroso ( $85 ). I have both, LOL.

the easiest way i have found to do it... borrow a 1" drive impact wrench and use that... i saw one at a shop and took off a crank pulley for fun... well it wasnt that fun... "click click click" and it was off... like it was nothing!

1" Drive... jeez.. it's not that hard.. those things have like 2000 ft lbs of torque...
a 1/2" drive should work just fine...

But don't think that I haven't thought of getting it...

but I'm not working on a TRAIN ENGINE

if you still have the flywheel on here is an idea...

1 put one of your tranny bolt back into the block
2 take one of the 12pt bolts (that holds the pressure plate onto the flywheel) and screw it back into one of the points on the flywheel...
3 take a wrench and place it on the both bolts and the crank shouldn't turn

hope it helps...later
