Default reev limit for CTR cams

my reev stops at 8000 right now. i have the CTR cams in a b16 motor with b16 valve train (i think thats how you spell it). i read that i need to swap over the type R valve train in order to raise the reev limit without having a problem. if i want to raise it to 9000, will i have a problem with my stock valve train or do i have to use the type R valve train? TIA

I'm pretty sure a b16a valve train would float at 9000rpms. With bigger cams, I'm almost 100% sure.

Tru that. A good setup for CTR cams or any cams with up
to 12.5mm of lift AT THE VALVE is mainly a honda setup:

Yellow ITR Outer Springs x 16 $160
Portflow Stiffened Inner ITR Springs x 16 $80
Skunk2 Retainers x 16 $160

I use the Endyn oversized flat Black Nitrided SS exhaust valves (28.5),
$125 ITR intake valves with a 3 angle job $200 and what you see
above with CTR cams. I have overreved my engine more than once
with no conseqence and I am still on the GSR stock computer.

when you dynoed why did you only go to 5250 rpm? wouldn't you have made more horsepower if you went to 8000rpm? Especially with the CTR cams which are more aggressive.

i did take it up to 8000...then it cut off. i wouldve put a chip in to reev higher, but i was scared somethin would go wrong since i still have the b16 valve train.

Were you talkin to me? hehe...

CTR cams/Sk2 gears:

Stock GSR everything but head and gears
slightly modified, however full cat and muffler
+4ex in crank deg, +2in in crank degrees
@ 20BTDC (18BTDC at 0,0, at 0,2 +
2 BTDC timing and valve opening)

163 whp at @7600 rpm
125 tq at @7400 rpm
122 at 5250 < this is the whp/tq crossover point.

my next mods will be: $3000
JDM final drive 4.785
Honda Type-R LSD
JDM DC 4-1
Test pipe
Tanabe 2.5" catback
Hondata or AEM Standalone with
Skunk2 Intake and 270cc injectors.
B&M ADJ FPR kit
re-tune cams, chip computer.
8400 redline

Fast Brakes Type R conversion
Konis for the rear, upgraded upper swaybars,
urethane cups and bushings, shift kit,
275lb/in static springrate for rear

want: 185/140 and 130 at 5250, 20mpg
daily driven to high 13s

my goal is to tune for strong midrange
while gaining upper RPM and to make
VTEC POP. GSRs dont normally do that...

then my extended plan: $4000

1956cc high revving NA GSR
8800rpm, 84.5mm bore on stock GSR crank
Forged pistons and rods, sleeved block
11.5:1 pistons, ARP head studs and rodbolts
upgraded high compression rings
endyn prepped ITR oil pump
84.5 bore 2 layer B18C1 head gasket
266_12.5/260_12 cams
headwork flowed for 2.0 and high revs
.5 oversized Endyn SS flat valves
310cc RC injectors
retain 2.5" exhaust with 3" catback

NA goal: 225/155 with 140 at 5250 18mpg
daily driven to low 13s on street tires

16" gunmetal volk racing LE-37Ts w/ 215/50/ZR16 Potenza SO3s
type r rear wing to go with my OEM GSR
full body kit

keep it a stocky looking corvette killer

I LOVE MY TEG

next...

10:1 pistons... 1 bar... darkside... oooh yes

OOOOOOOOOHHhhhhhhhhh YES!

You should be glad you cant go to 9k RPM yet. The stock B16a valves, and springs cant take it. They are too soft. you would fore sure get valve float. Save your money up for stiffer valves and springs and retainers and then get a the chip. The CTR cams only make power a little past 8.5K and then die off anyway. But witht the stiffer valves and such, you should be okay for the 9k RPM.
