Default Red dust of death - timing belt

And the project continues...

May be a noob/uneducated question, but I recently started getting the occasional miss. This is not a new issue. I have had to replace the coil, ignitor, and whole housing before. This time I noticed the infamous red dust. I searched but wasn't able to find if this could be related to an over tightened timing belt.

I recently replaced the thermo and water pump and am wondering if I may have zipped it up too tight on reinstall. I have had no other issues other than some noise from the alternator. I know I have alternator bearings to replace (damn a new alt is expensive!!). pulled the plugs and it seems #3 isn't burning as clean as the rest... new dizzy is on the way and I plan to replace the plug wires at the same time.

Just wondering if the belt may drag a little too much to allow proper cam rotation. Thoughts appreciated!

Red/brown dust in the distributor? That's an indication of a bad dist bearing. Nothing external will cause it.
