rear hub problem
I have a problem with my rear hub. I just tried to install a new rear hub assembly and when I took the hold assembly off, the bearing cone was seized onto the axle
Anyone have any hints on how I can get the cone off?

You need a race (sp?) remover. It kind of looks like a cast iron cigar cutter with 2 bolts on each side. You put the cast blade part in between the race (sp?) and the spindle then tighten up the bolts and it will break loose the race (sp?) from the spindle. Then take a gear puller and pull it off. The race is pressed on, so it will be a little difficult. I'm not sure but I think you can buy them form the auto parts store. Bought mine from a some tool expo.......
i did manage to get the race off (I called it a cone because thats what we cyclists call them), by beating race with a hammer. It broke into two pieces. I put the new hub on. The only thing I am worried about is the tension on the bearing itself.
thanks for the help!

I'm going to be doing the exact same thing this weekend, how badly worn was your rear bearing? Was it nessecary to replace the hub along with the bearing? Just wondering cause my rear right bearing is shot and I ordered a complete hub w/ bearings replacement. mine had a bearing noise for a little while, now has a tiny bit of movement, so I'm guessing the whole hub assembly needs replaced...
hi I am replacing the rear hub/bearing right now and im stuck... can anyone answer these ?'s?
1. how the hell do you get the cap off that covers the spindle nut???
2. my manual says to "stake the spindle nut" after you re install & torque it down. what does this mean?
thanks for your help!

don't know about your first question, but staking involves hammering in part of the lip on the top of the nut so that it cannot work it's way loose very easily, just look at the axle nuts on the front of your car, there is a notch on the axle so that after you tighten the nut, you can hammer part of the lip into that notch
