Really need help with low oil pressure
I could really use some help with this. I'm getting ready to strip the car if I don't find the problem soon.
I just put a rebuilt gsr motor in my car and now I'm getting a oil pressure light during warn up and a knocking noise if I let it go to long.
I think the problem might be with the rods. When I first got the motor I checked the rod bearings to make sure they were good and then I torqued them down to eagle specs 28 put the motor in and no pressure. So I drop the pan and look around. I found out that the bolts aren't the arp 2000 bolts that the eagle rods came with but instead there 61-7 or L-19 bolts. I called eagle to get a torque spec and the guy said that if they take a 7/16 socket to torque them down to 43 ft lbs and if there another size to torque them to 28 ft lbs. I was using plastic gauge at the time so I only torqued them to 40 and the clearances came out fine so I tightened the rods down to 43 and everything else to spec. Start the car and after a few minute the oil light starts to flicker so I turn the car off and go to the bar.
where am I going wrong?
I check the clearance in the rods again and I'm coming up with .003 but the first time I got .0015. Could the rod bolts streatch that much and be causing my problem?
I called eagle back and talked to another guy. From what he said they only used those bolts in small block chevys and the rod would need drilled out to fit the bolt. I can't see any markings on the rod so now I don't even know if there eagle rods. Does anyone know what I can look for to find out or know what rod uses a 61-7 bolt?
