It might be the shift forks are bent from having bad synchros and still racing with it. You are better off getting a transmission shop or person who knows what they are doing to look at it and see what the hell is wrong. Keep in mind that Honda tranny parts are not cheap. I am rebuilding a 00 Type R tranny and it is going to cost damn near $1000 in parts cause the guy who owns the car had no mercy on his trans. Good luck.
there is a very good possibility that the previous owner of your transmission was hard on it and the synchro's and shift forks are bent or broken, but before you take the trans. to a shop, take a look at your clutch engagement and release hight. if your clutch is binding sticking or draging it is possible that it wont go into gear or that it will hard shift. also check for little things like a leaking cluthch master or slave cylinder, this would cause hard shifting and a slow creep at a stop light with the clutch pedel depressed and in gear. im not sure if your car has a cable, shift rod or direct linkage but id also suggest checking the shift linkage for proper installation. if its none of these things then i would take the trans. out and bring it to a trans. shop. if your gonna take it apart your self get a good set of instructions from alldata or OnDemand Transmissions5. usually with a manual transaxle there will be three detent plugs for the internal shift rods, if you loosen those and take the ball and spring out keep them in order cuz they might be different. also the reverse idler gear shaft is mostlikely locked in place with a bolt on the case so to split the case that bolt has to be removed. for the 5th speed gear and 5th gear synchronizer youll need a good impact and probably a pitman arm puller for the synchro hub. other than that its pretty straight forward and easy. other than that to replace the synch's youll need some snapring pliers, a bearing spliter and a press to do the rest of it. good luck with it.
