so like, at random, when i shut my car off, after its off for 2 to 3 seconds, it backfires, and sounds like a 22 shooting. but it only does it once in a while? suggestions?

You have an old CRX so I'm assuming it's carbureted? Is your idle too high or is the engine running extremely rich? The only way what you are describing will happen is if fuel gets in the exhaust after the engine is shut off.

 

my idle IS a little high..its about 1100, and i think i am running rich, and ill be completely honest, im not that familiar with carburetors, so its possible that i have a vacuum line mixed up, causing it to run rich. other than vacuum, is there any other causes that could be making it run rich?

 

There are a lot of things that can cause it to run rich but you need to get your idle speed down first and see if it fixes it. Is your choke coming off after the engine warms up?
