Radio install 1982 Prelude
Hi all,
I'm looking at finally replacing the radio in my 82 Prelude. The original installation is for the shaft-style radios not the DIN standard.
Has anyone done the conversion from the shaft-style to DIN in this vintage car? Any know of kits to do this conversion?
Thanks
Christine

You must have a shaft mount kit in there now, just remove it and you have a DIN opening... https://www.installdr.com/InstallDoc...PDF/466025.asp
And either there is a harness adapter there now or you will have to hard wire the new unit... https://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/HA-Wiring.asp Sorry, I can't remember if the 82 used a common ground for the front and rear speakers, if it does you will have to rewire one set, fronts or rears to isolate all the speaker grounds, [most newer HUs are high power 4ch units and will need bot a pos.(+) and neg.(-) to each speaker. 94

FCM,
You are correct. I have an adapter to mount a shaft-style radio in the radio bay.
The adapter has two small tabs on each side through which screws pass to secure the bracket that holds the radio to the dash. The opening measures 7 3/16" by 2 1/2".
I guess what I need is something that will go in its place that will hold a DIN style radio.
Any suggestions for where to get or how to fabricate a DIN mount for this car would be appreciated.

You could use a DIN "trim ring" and cut it down to fit the opening, mostly to cover the two "slots' on either side... Metra Online | Parts | Metra Auto Parts Online Warehouse 94
So far every DIN deck I've purchased new comes with the DIN bracket that you slide in and bend tabs to hold it in place against the opening.
Guess it's sometimes called a DIN cage and looks like this:

Will this not work?
As I mentioned, these have come with every single DIN deck I've purchased to date.
