Default Quoted $1300 for a valve job. Replace head instead?

I took my 91 hatchback in to get an inspections of most parts, and the number 2 cylinder isn't working. The mechanic said the valves are screwing up or sumthing and I need a valve job. He said to do everything to get it working would be $1300 dollars. Considering I only paid $1100 for it, that is out of the question. The engine is a D15B1 (stock for a 91 civic std.). Can I just replace the head instead of doing all that ****? Will that solve it?

Just get a new engine. A d15 can probly be had for that price. Yeah 1300 is because basicly they have to rebuild the engine. Maybe you can even upgrade and get a nice swap.

im guessin the number 2 cyclinder doesnt have any compression due to the valves bent burnt through or something else! 1300 dollars seems like a lot for a valve job! you should take the head off your self if you know how to do it, every little thing helps in saving your self money

$1300 is a ******* joke. A local guy here does IM and TB boring, as well as port matching and a 3 way valve job for $400 Canadian, and he's VERY well known locally amongst all car guys and well respected. That's a bargain, but it puts $1300 usd into perspective for just a valve job.

You could easily get a b18b for less than that price, so if you're considering the amount already just upgrade engines!

Don't change the head dude. Just change the engine. ***, change the engine 5 times...it'll still be cheaper than what that nutjob is asking.

1300 is about what a repair shop would charge to pull that head, rebuild it and put it back on and have it runnign well as well as back it.
