Default quick question- i need help

EDIT: 4/9/06 I thought I had it figured out but I guess not... I thought the problem was that my head wasnt seated all the way cause my dowel pins were shitty and oil was getting into the cylinders-- So I got new LS/vtec dowel pins, a new cometic headgasket, changed the oil and coolant and it did the EXACT same thing as before when I tried to start it??? Now im thinking it might be something to do with my fuel map but I dont know how that could be. Im running hondata s100 but I didnt mess with the ecu at all the whole time. It starts if I give it a little gas when I crank it, and it revs up fine again but it wont idle for ****, and if I try to accelerate fast it bogs down real bad. A bunch of white smoke is pouring out too when I rev up, and the injectors are pitch black after I run it for a minute. Im running out of ideas, its not the timing or the map sensor, what else could it be?
--I just remembered that I never did a valve adjustment after I got my head back from the machine shop, could that be it??? They put in new valve seals for me and did a valve job, so I bet they are off, but could this be the whole problem?

(LS/vtec Turbo is the setup, GSR head) I put a new headgasket in, I just got my head back from the machine shop for a valve job and new valve seals, installed it all, checked everything twice, timing is perfect.... This bitch wont start now. Last time I put the head on the timing was off cause I didnt do it right and it didnt start, but this time I know its dead on.
I just installed adjustable cam gears too, but they are both set to 0. I dont know whats going on. It will start right up and cut off 1 second later, if I feather the gas really lightly it will stay running but sound like ****. It sounds like the timing is off but it cant be??? The map sensor and TPS are plugged in good. Its getting fuel and spark on all cylinders too. Does anyone know what else it might be? Im getting tired of this bullshit- after I get it running its gonna be for sale. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

what cam gears do you have? if it sounds like ****...it's probably your timing. make sure you set it at tdc, line the gears up correctly, and line the pulley with the mark on the cover. doesn't hurt to doublecheck.

yea if its sum bs cam gears they might be off the only thing i can think of to do is use 5mm pins to hold your camshafts were they should be there the lil holes on top of the cam shaft holder plates then adjusts the cam gears so the timing belt is on the way it should be then ur golden

the cam gears are "peak performance" which Ive never heard of but they look like theyre good quality. I put the cams at TDC- keyway facing up, put the cam gears on, lined up the marks on the gears, put the #1 piston at TDC and tightened down the timing belt. Spun it all a few times at the crank pulley and checked again and it was still perfect... I never checked the mark at the bottom on the oil pump and crankshaft pulley, I will do that tomorrow cause I dont have a cover on there so I have to take off the crank pulley. I dont see how it can be off when the #1 piston is TDC, and thats what the helms manual says. I just took a long screwdriver, put it in the spark plug hole and spun it til it was all the way up... It almost has to be the timing but I dont see how, I already threw out the stock cam gears too damnit...

Those holes are right at TDC? I never knew that, I might try that too thanks

Recheck all electrical connections. Sounds like you have the motor timed. Go through all the wires and connections very carefully. It's very easy to forget a connection when your anxious to get the car running.

The plug wires are good, I checked the TPS and MAP sensors, I will go through and check all the other connections too. Im running out of ideas. It cranks fine, but when it fires it just dies as soon as I quit turning the key. It acted like this when I had the MAP sensor wired wrong, but I didnt mess with it at all. I just dont want to have to pull the head again yet... What other connections could I check?

Timing from distributor could be off. Check it with a light.

This is getting more confusing that I thought it would...
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ccivic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Timing from distributor could be off. Check it with a light.</TD></TR></TABLE> how do I go about doing that, Ive never had to use a timing light before, I dont even have one...

I took a bunch of pics cause the display on my camera is broke, and this was the best one - the plugs were all completely pitch black- the whole head and ceramic part and little arm thing? Whats that mean, too much fuel or is there oil getting in there?

The timing is definitely good- theres no way its off I checked the **** out of it. I think its getting too much fuel cause when I run it it smells like a damn gas station. It wont idle at all but if I give it gas it will rev up and sound fine, I revved it up to like 5500 and a big puff of dark black smoke shot out, black smoke has never came out before??? I dont know what the hell is going on. I might have to take it to my mechanic soon cause its never done anything like this before.

The only things I changed were the headgasket, radiator, the machine shop put in new valve seals and did a valve job, thermostat, plugs, cam gears, and I changed the oil and filter. This is routine **** and I dont know that the F the problem could be. Thanks for the help so far

take the vaccume line off the fuel pressure regulator, turn the key to on position and see if any fuel comes out of it, if it does that is bad i had a faulty regulator once and it would pour fuel into the intake, took me a while to figure it out. it sucked

nope it was a cometic and I used copper spray all over it so I guess theres $90 down the *******. Id take pics of where the oil was leaking from but my camera sucks, does this sound like the problem. Could a really bad seal on the block cause it to run like this, Id think it would start and then start to run like ****, not the opposite like it was doing??? I guess Ill find out.
