Default Quick question about pulley dampening?

Ok So Im about to do a h22a into CRX swap and need to shave the PAS part off the crank pulley however I thought rather than modify my exsisting one I shall modify an aftermarket one. Ive done this and it all looks good however I have just heard a whisper about this dampener issue when running an aftermarket crank pulley. Can I use the stock dampener on an aftermarket pulley? Or should I forget about the aftermrket pulley and modify the stock one to work?

If I can use the dampener off the stock pulley on the other one I may buy a new one fro honda, does anyone have the part number to hand for a h22a?

I tried a search for "pulley dampener" but nothing of any use came up. Please help me shed some light on this.

Thanks

the dampener is as far as i know only there to reduce the shoch of the a/c turning on.

I dont really need A/C as im in rainy old england Does that mean I do not require a dampner?

Thanks

There's whole articles written on this. Basically, the pulley is supposed to be two separate pieces with rubber in between to absorb vibrations. I won't go further because I don't understand the issues (although I encourage you to continue research), but after reading about it I would personally get the stock one to work instead of using an aftermarket one.

i have used aftermarket ones for years without an issue. on civics and many honda engines there is no rubber at all in the pulley.

I shall use the stock one for now just to be sure (their should be a a motto there, if in doubt use OEM spec)

But when I have a closer look I maybe able to knock up a simular to stock dampening system for use on the aftermarket pulley.

When removing the PAS pulley I just hacksawed the part off, do I need to get the aftermarket pulley balanced? Does the crank pulley take a fair amount of RPM?

Thanks

Take a look in the middle list of papers here http://www.mtggraphics.com/big...a.htm for technical background on the issue.
The crank dampener is there to nix crankshaft torsional vibration.

If in aftermarket dampeners you mean ones like fluidampr, then you will have no problem.

if the crank pulley was a dampener then honda would call it such. but instead honda calls them
"pulley, crankshaft"

the harmonic balancer/dampener as made by fluidamp or as put on a v8 engine is NOTHING like what honda has on its engines.

another example is the K series 2.4 liter engines. they are solid pulleys as well.
