well if you did search, then you would know that you do need the p28.
But you never said what kind of car its going into either. Unless your going from obdII to obdI. Or something like that....
search under bauleycivic, he has tons of info

just did some reading
if i get the s100 from hondata, they say it "fits inside the ECU", since its programable n ****, should i just keep the stock one, or would i have to get a p28 anyway in addition to this?

You will have to get the ECU chipped anyway. If you have a 92-95 DX then you can have your stock ECU chipped to P28 specs and then to handle the hondata, or you can get a P28 and have that chipped to handle hondata. Basically if you have a 92-95 manual DX ECU don't worry about it. Problem will be finding someone to chip it. Talk to user "kenji" on this board.

i have a 98 non vtec civic, so i guess i would both need a new ecu and the hondata..
there is a tuner here in TO that people gave credit to, i'll probably just go to him.

Yeah, you'll need a P28 ECU, an OBD2--> OBD1 conversion harness, and then to have the ecu chipped to handle the hondata

ok sorry for being a bother, its just that i never read this line of questioning before in other threads.
ok now if i DONT get a hondata, do i still need an obd2 --> obd1 conversion to engage my vtec?
or would a p28 be sufficient right now? ( cuz i have a y7 block, putting on a y8 head so its all obd2 right?)

you could get a p2p ecu which is the obd2 ex ecu and run that, but you'll have to wire in a knock sensor. a p28 is obd1 and to run a p28 you'll need an obd2 --> obd1 harness. check hondata's website too...i think they make a unit for obd2 cars.
