I have a friend whom just purchased a Volkswagen Golf? 1.8T 337 Edition, one friend who bought a 96 Mustang GT and another friend who has had a 1997 Eagle Talon TSi AWD for a while. Now that I have my car around ( have been up a school ) They wanna all race me for fun and I was wondering if I stand a chance in heck against some of them?

My Mods are as listed:
1998 EX Coupe
FBP (I thought i would add the color because black cars have at LEAST a 100hp advantage over competition )
1999 B16A2 Swap
ZEX Nitrous Kit (w/55 jets installed currently)
AEM Cold Air Intake
Skunk2 SS

thanks for anyones input (as i don't know much about the listed cars)
ALL OF THEIR CARS ARE STOCK! (assuming we are all equally skilled drivers too)

is the talon turbo or just awd?
i think you have a pretty good chance with the 50 shot...
the golf might take you...depends on his boost

all in all, it comes down to how you drive, and how they drive

 

TSi AWD = Turbo AWD
i don't remember there being a non-turbo AWD talon..

 

I think you might stand a chance... just might. What are the mods on there other cars???

I'd give you a good chance with equal driver skills. I'd think the TSi would be the toughest to beat. Nos is a great equalizer.

Don't those still produce around 180HP? I think it's the VR6 that's been upgraded to near 200. I think the rabbit will get run over when the laughing gas starts flying.

Plus it'll look like *** doing it. Golf = ugly raggit. IMO.

 

If there was anyone I thought I was gunna beat it was either the Mustang or the 337, according to VW the 337 only does 0-60 in just over 7 seconds which should be close/equal with a stock Si (basically my car), so I was thinking I would own him, especially if it was stock?

 

The '96 GT was around 210-220 if memory serves and weighs about the same as the Eagle. About 400lbs heavier than the Rabbit...Golf...GTi...whatever we're calling them this week. The GT will get the jump, the Talon will pass the Ford when the turbo spools, you'll blow by them all when you start laughing...er gassing. The VW will finish dead last IMO.

 

OOps never mind. I just saw that the 337 has the 25th anniversary red stitching and assorted other power enhancing mods.

Really. Now I'll admit that I'm no expert when it comes to VWs, but it's only because I have almost no interest whatsoever in them. Now if you claim a stock 337 beat a modded TypeR...particularly at speeds...I gotta ask, did the Acura driver KNOW it was a race? The R makes around 20 more ponies and weighs 220lbs less stock. The rabbit has a near 45lb/ft torque advantage, but what's new. Hondas don't do torque. There is no way you can convince me that this mediocre performing FI rabbit is all that fast stock. It really doesn't look like they're getting much of anything from that turbo...I mean 180peak HP FId? Get some real boost from that turbo and it might be a different story. Stock it looks like the turbo is more of a marketing ploy. Imagine how bad this race would be if the R was FId too. OUCH!

 

GSRswapandslow, why don't you get some REAL info about the car before you come in here calling everyone else uneducated? The bottom line is, BW does 0-60 in just over 7 seconds (7.1-7.2), My car does it in low 7's (not on the bottle), the Talons are supposed to do it in 6.8 (AWD TSi), and the 96 mustang GT should do 0-60 in very high six's or low 7 seconds...meaning that the 337 is pretty much gunna be last...(assuming we all drive well), so get some info before you come in here throwing around a bunch of BS.

BTW: Did i mention i pull the BS flag??

not trying to be a weenie, but the fact is---> 337 do 0-60 in 7.1-7.3 which is pretty close to an 1999-00 Si (my car stock, without the bottle)

yeah the 337 looks pimp but its not fast. not saying my car is either, just saying, i like it but its not a speed demon, its probably a little slower than the normal gti cause it has 18 inch wheels, a lot of body stuff and what not.

 

Go to your local drag strip and/or track and/or autocross and find out... Can't beat a day at an event with your friends playing with your cars!!

 

I'm sure it's like the freak rabbit of the lot. Heck they probably accidentally dropped a McLaren F1 engine in there. Oops.

 

just as you are aware of the numbers, I am very aware of the details that may affect it...but I don't think a car company would lie about its 0-60 1/4 mile numbers to "trick" other people into "thinking" they were slow

BTW: Is your friends 337 stock? Not trying to be a smartass, just curious.

 

if a stock 337 is whooping all those cars they need to learn how to drive, or get the cars checked out because something is wrong....

I think the VW is to heavy so yeah run him off the line i think you can take him.. and then run the mustang from a first gear roll...but dont run the TSI off the line.Run him on the highway. do a top end run.AWD seem to be slower at that the top.Right after you wax all them.because you will...Say you should've bought a HONDA
