questions about engine setups
alright i am new here and i dont know if this has been asked b4 but anyways here it goes. i was thinking about getting a b18c1 or a b16a for my civic hatch and i wanted to do some internal work to the engine and have the compression ratio at around 11.5:1. i was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions and if you did how much would it cost and what else would i have to do to make sure i dont blow my engine up
You can expect to pay around $3500 for a GSR swap or $2400 for a b16 swap. If you can swing it I'd go for the B18c, you'll likely have regrets later if you don't. As far as raising the compression that's easier on the b18c. PR3 or JDM ITR pistons would yield 11.36:1 or the CTR pistons will be 12:1 w/ stock gasket in the b18c. Getting the b16 up to 11.5:1 is more difficult since even CTR pistons are only 10.8:1 w/ the 77mm B16 crank. You could swing it with a thin head gasket and cam gears to bring your timing back to stock. As far as the build/tuning goes just check your clearances before startup and make sure you have the fuel to support your engine and you won't have problems.
