Default questions about a b16 head on a b18b

i have someone that's going to sell me a b16 head for my LS for a vtec conversion but i was told that the b16 doesn't use vtec until 7000 rpms, my b18b1 redlines at 6800, when i change the head would it change the redline of my b18 without risking motor damage or would the vtec be there and be practically useless unless i risk blowing my motor?

FYI the redline is computer controlled. You can rev your current motor past 6800 if you have the ECU chipped, but it doesn't mean your motor can handle higher RPMs.
