Default question on b16a2 vs b16b

I am doing a swap in my car this winter and am going to be buying either one of these motors. I was just wondering can I run forced induction on a b16b motor or will the compression of it stock and the induction just be to high. I want to put a vortech supercharger on these motor but have not decided what one to buy yet. I am getting one at the end of oct. I just don't want to blow the motor and have to pick another one up. I mean stock the b16a2 is 10.2/1 and the b16b is 10.8/1. Is there that much of a difference in just .6 compression. I don't know but I am sure that some one in this website does.

if i were you..just save your money for other essential stuff for the b16a if you are going to turbo it..b16b is not worth turboing especially if you want to up the boost..

Must... resist... urge... to bash Vortech...

But if thats how you want to go...
I'd just get the b16a. The .6 bump in comp won't yield much if you're just going to run the FMU that comes with the Vortech kit. Also, the CTR cams are slightly more aggresive, and unless you dial out the overlap you'll just be blowing compressed air right through the CC.

why do you want to bash vortech? would it be better to go with turbo vs supercharger?

First of all lets not turn this into another Turbo vs JRSC vs Vortech thread.

I don't like the fact that the Vortech will not reach maximum proscribed boost/whp until right before you shift. If you look at a dyno plot for a vortech you should notice that the area of the plot beneath the whp/wtq curves is significantly smaller than that of a turbo at the same max psi. I don't like that it is crank driven. I don't like an AWIC on a street car. I don't like changing a pulley to turn up the boost.

Don't get me wrong here, I think that the vortech is a viable option depending on your goals. It's just not what I would do.

What do you want to do with your car? Drag? Auto-x? mAd 70p 5p33d hWy 5tuN7iN?

What is better for you wil depend on your goals.

well I just thought that because honda lack torque that the supercharger would help in the bottom end and vtec would take care of the top end. Then if I needed nos I could get that for topend as well. I would like something street quick. You know light to light. But I also want to be quick on the high way. I am just loking to get the best of both worlds. I would like top end but really I would just like to pull up to somebody and take them off the line. Am I making any sense at all?

B16A has a shorter deck height, the B16B is taller---the same as gsr/ls/crv/itr.

B16B is 185 hp and 117 ft-lbs out of the box I think, if that's what you're referring to

With boost, go B16A. Turbo versus supercharger is an entire other issue.

B16 with JRSC or turbo.

Forget the Vortech was ever made. You'll not miss much.

I disagree, go B18B with turbo, add sleve block guards and you can make it into the 11's with a light ride...

Yes, you shouldn't even waste the money for a vtec motor if you're going turbo. B18B's can be had for cheap.
