Re: Quick question about Vortech Supercharged b16a2 (Austinbionic316)
i think the amazing r/s ratio is the main reason ctr's rev so high. the valve train is pretty sweet tho. i think i might go vortech too. seems well worth the money

what else was done to the motor? **** i cant wait to see how it reacts to a 1.7L with just over 10.5:1 compression, and a 100 shot. before plans were turbo and in that case my goal was like 300-350hp, i think now im just gonna throw on a high boost boost pully and see how much i can spray.

Re: (KraZEtEggIE)
Hondata 3B, typical built motor, ported head, GSR cams, Vortech with PaynTech 8-rib belt upgrade, 550cc injectors and Vortech SFMU with 1:1 rise, Bosch 255lph pump modified for higher pressure (basicly one of the two Porsche 911 Turbo fuel pumps). Not a whole lot to it, just a bit of tuning and tweaking.

Yeah man, go blower! You can deal with such wonderful things as no low end boost, belt slip, destroying belts, needing to change a pulley to change boost, and more stress on your front main bearings, woohoo.

you forgot to mention i will prolly snap my rods since oem rods dont like 400hp, and the fact that vortech uses a centrifugal supercharger, not a blower.

Supercharger = blower = Supercharger.
Turbo > Supercharger
I've owned and driven lots of centrifugally blown cars, and like I said earlier you're going to kick yourself in the *** lots if you go with a vortech instead of a turbo.

I know he is on here so he can elaborate but he found pieces of his main bearings in his oil pan along with some other stuff I bet you $100.00 he would rather run a turbo setup

Alrighty. Continue on your blind quest with the worst power adder made for hondas.

Sure did, it was a spun bearing on #3 rod. Turns out the engine builder (Bensons) didnt size the bearings and used aftermarket non-Honda bearings. That along with an oil pressure sudden drop while at high revs did its damage. Basicly my oil was low, I didnt know it, took a corner kinda hard on the throttle and oil pressure dropped to next to nothing, let off the gas, week later the oil pump was making assloads of noise and about 30psi lower pressure than before. After pulling the pan I also discovered the bearing material in the pan. It was not from the main bearings which all look good still.
On that note, i havent had to replace this belt since last fall. And at $12, I hardly find it a problem to do so. (Even considering it is a Goodyear Gatorback 8 rib Poly-V belt.) I dont have problems with belt slippage despite running 18psi either. Though I didnt get a chance to run the car at the drag strip this year since running higher boost, I dont doubt it would have been at least 2 or 3/10ths faster leapfroging the car into the 11's with the only weight reduction being the loss of the A/C and spare tire.

Show me why vortech's arn't. They make boost later than turbos, they do not make as much power per pound of boost as turbos, they are more stressful on the motor, less convenient to change boost, and more expensive. I've owned 2 centrifugally blown cars personally, and I am never going back.

Yeah, and look at that pathetic torque curve. Do you have any real info as to why you think the vortech is better than turbo, or are you just trying to come up with crap to justify getting the vortech because you think it's cool? How about the car tony1 tuned almost exactly a year ago with an SC61 that made 372 WHP @ 9 psi, and had a powercurve that totally puts the vortech to shame? Keep in mind peak power isn't everything, area under the curve is what makes the car fast. 350 WHP at 15 psi isn't that impressive anyways, there are SC61 cars doing well over 400 at 15 psi. So like I said, where's some REAL info that the vortech is such a great setup?

Re: (Austinbionic316)
I run vortech. It has been on there for over 2 years, the only belts that have been replaced are the ones that I tore up playing with adjustment and one was a verry cheap belt. I have had no reliability issues. The only thing that I have trouble with is front tires. I am running 10psi on a Rock stock block. It makes 275hp and 175ft. and runs 8.40-8.90 depending on track conditions. on slicks spinning throough first. It will **** off mustags and camaro's up to 150mph on the interstate. and is generally alot of fun to drive. here's the down side. below boost your car feels like the A\C Is on alll the time. I am on my third clutch (including the stock one). I have a quafe lsd because I spit spidergears out the back of the trans. The exhaus is verry loud due to the fact that there is no turbo to quiet it down some. but over all I am happy with the kit.
