Default question about vtec

i just swapped a b16 into my 90 civic, it is my first vtec car to ever drive,

i was wondering if when i drive on the highway at about 80mph its a little above 5k where vtec engages.

if im just cruising above 5k on the highway not at full throttle is vtec still engaged?
does it only engage at WOT?

If you're not at hmmm 75% (aprox) throttle or more VTEC won't engage...so you can run on the low cam during hiway driving but as soon as the pedal get towards WOT it will engage..the actual number would be in the helms

I don't think it's 75% unless I'm mistaken.

If you cruise, it won't kick in. If you give it gas, it'll kick in

wrong I can accelerate over 5000rpms without hitting VTEC...it as to do with throttle positon...it's probably more like 60%

VTEC != Turbo ...

for my 2k Si, VTEC engages (B16A2) @

1st = 20mph
2nd = 40 mph
3rd = 60 mph
4th = 80+ mph
5th = 100+ mph

These are just estimates. Even if im not at WOT and Im just driving you will hear the cam profile switch around 5500/5600 RPM

will it cause a problem if im above 5k in 5th my whole way to college if vtec is engaged?

its an s1 tranny so i hit 5k in 5th at about 80mph

its a 3 hour trip, i normally have it at the same throttle position the whole way unless im goin uphill

vtec is NOT engaged at cruising throttle.
you need to put the hammer down to hit vtec.

the hydrolic event takes place, however the timing advance attributed to throttle position is held back. in the GSR, WOT VTEC happens at 4400 and at narrow throttle it happens at 5000. I am not sure for the B16a
