question about shift forks (GSR tranny)
Are they supposed to have very much play in them/be able to wiggle around in the tranny? I took a GSR tranny apart and the 1/2 and 3/4 shift forks wiggle around a lot... not so much the 5/r fork, and I noticed that that's the only one that fits tight into the tranny case (the other 2 forks have some kind of ring spacer thing in the hole where they insert into the tranny case). The 3/4 shift fork wiggles the most, and is worn unevenly and looks like it got really chewed up. I was also having a problem with the 3rd and 4th gears before I took the tranny apart, where it'd be hard to downshift into 4th and I'd have to wiggle the shifter and pull on it hard before it went in, and downshifting into 3rd always grinded... but it worked fine if I was just upshifting (although I didn't try at high RPMs). The shifter also sat crooked leaning toward the driver when in nuetral. So basically if anyone has more experience than me and might know what I'm talking about, and if anyone knows if the forks are supposed to be able to wiggle like that, feel free to comment/give me some info. TIA
*edit - Also, what would by the symptoms of a bent fork/forks, and if the change holder assembly was somehow bent?
*edit2 - If you don't really know what you're talking about and are unsure, please don't post.
I know that there's a whole lot of false info on H-T.

With the stacks and the forks installed into the bellhousing, they will "wiggle' around. How much....hard to put a figure on it. Get our your service manaual and follow the inspection procedures. Start measuring.
if you have the tranny disassembled without the case, there will be play. when you close the case, the top of the rod the forks are attached to sink into the case and thus stabilizes them.
when your change peice breaks, you cannot put it in or take it out of gear at all.
if you are experiencing alot of play, something isnt right inside the tranny.
there really isnt much room for slop.
best thing I can reccomend is tear your tranny down and get it to someone
who can tell you, or post pics here. I have some spare forks and a change
peice if you are interested. as far as symptoms, I remember when I broke
a change peice and bent a fork. it worked right up to the point that it stopped
working. the last couple shifts were a bear and then thunk. right into 4th
gear and that was all she wrote.

How much are you looking to get for those parts?

Well I've decided to sell the tranny locally cause I'm getting a couple of good offers on it and would rather just take the cash to save for a turbo than spend more money fixing the tranny.

hey man, I need your opinion on this. My buddy and i rescently put a tranny back together (Integra LS) and we tested it by moving the shifting rod in and out. It went in and out so I assume that would be 3rd, 4th and nuetral right? Well I sell my tranny to some douche bag and now he's saying all this crap that's wrong with it. He's saying it only shifts in 2nd, 5th, and reverse. I'm thinking the shift 3/4 fork got screwd up. Can it just pop out after some time if it wasn't put in correctly? My stock diff blew up on me and that's why I replaced it. Nothing looked worn or bad in the transmission either. I'm just pissed because he filed a claim and I've got $500 bucks floating in the air
. Thanks for the quick response
