Default question about replacing icm ( ignitor ) with msd box

i have a b series motor and ive had this msd 6al box on it for a couple years now. in that time ive gone through 2 ignitors and now ive just toasted a third. i did some searching and found that the 6al box is the cause of the problem. ive also heard of people replacing the ignitor with the msd box, but almost all the people ive read about doing this have standalone systems and not stock ecus.

i found this in a post which describes how to bypass the ignitor completely and let the 6al box be its substitute, but i also read somewhere that this may cause your ecu to fry (im not quite sure why though). i just wanted to ask if anyone knew anything about this before i hook it up the way it is in the diagram. please lmk if you are familiar with this thanks

I know you can do this with the AEM EMS but I didnt know you could with the stock ecu.. On the AEM box we just hook the white wire from the msd to the coil output of the AEM box..

It can't be done like that. There may be some other way of doing it, but connecting the MSD directly to the ECU can't be done with the stock ECU.

Just giving this a bump to see if anyone has tried this mod with a stock ECU. Since, my ignitor just when cause of MSD ignition.

Nevermind..I found the solution in a archived posting.
