question about engine and O2 sensor
just have a general question about the engine and O2 sensor. I know that the O2 sensor does a lot and has to do with controling teh amount of air and fuel go into the engine. So my question is if there was no O2 sensor at all would the car run very poor? The reason I am asking this is because my buddy just finished an engine swap and put no headers on and didnt put the O2 sensor on and its running like ****. The engine at first started up fine but after alittle while it wouldnt start like there was no fuel going to the engine but we check all that and it wasnt that and then we thought the battery just didnt have enough power to power everything but we checked that also and it was fine. After messing with everything for a while the engine finally fired up but would stall out immeditaley. My thought is that by not having the O2 sensor the engine wasnt providign teh right fuel and air to run it properly and also i think that it also fouled the plugs out. We finally got it to run but it ran like crap and was reving up and down. Im just curious if anyone knows if an O2 sensor would cause all this or if it is something beyond just the O2 sensor. We are buying one this weekend and going to put it on but im still just curious to if this is possible. Any comment are welcome.
Yes the o2 tells the ECU whats going coming out as far as air fuel levels and it adjust accordingly. No signal from the o2 and it runs poorly as in, not optimal, but it wouldn't cause it to stall, or not start.
Well we can get it to run it just runs like crap. The reason i think it has trouble starting now is b/c the spark plugs were fouled out by not running an O2 sensor. Im going to go buy a new set of plugs and an O2 sensor and see what that does.
