Default Q: Assembling a motor?

this is for all the mechanics out there. can a motor builder get in wrong? theres a guy that buids honda motor over here in australia and he uses all the correct parts but his motors dont make that much power on the dyno. the dyno tech guy says that he probably doesnt put his motors together all that well. now my question is how can u not put a motor together well?

I'd say its pretty easy. I mean, a few teeth on the timing belt can be the difference between the car starting and not starting at all. Theres probably a hundred small details that can effect the performance of a motor.

"The devil is in the details"
Two guys assembling identical boxes box of parts aren't going to get any big difference in power.Mostly its the choice and combination of parts. The machine work will make a difference. It all adds up.

yep, machining and measuring plays a big role...

bearing tolerances; ptwc, honing, how well the rings seat...etc.
