puzzled about starter
sup guys, here's the situation:
95 integra gs-r, ok so my car would start just fine then after a while it would not turn over, you would just hear the starter solenoid click, but nothing.
i cleaned the starter solenoid, no probs, well last night i moved a few wiring harness's near the battery to make room for a oil catch can.. did not unplug anything, and my car wouldn't start,
1. I have continuity between (-) and starter chassis, so it is grounded well.
2. I am reading a consisten 12.56v at the main 4 awg cable on the starter.
3. The starter signal wire reads 12.55v when the meter is ONLY on the wire, the wire is not on the starter, but if i plug the wire onto the starter, and connect my meter, i'm seeing 7.9-8.1v dc. So i'm thinking its just an old starter.
i take the starter solenoid apart again, the copper ring on the plunger is pitted really bad, contacts worn, so i went and bought another starter. i put it on, expecting the problem to be solved and nothing.... still getting correct voltage at starter, but when the signal wire is on the starter i'm seeing 5v or so drop.. what could cause this on even the new starter.. its almost like its seized, but its not, i have turned it.. any idea's appreciated..

you can hear clicking with the new starter ? if not jump a wire from the 4awg wire to the solenoid !!!! make sure the car is in neutral!!!!! the starter should spin
My guess is a bypass jump will crank the engine, indicating a current issue with starter signal, [solenoid trigger] wire, probably burnt contacts in the starter relay.
Pull the relay and install a jumper wire, if engine cranks, replace relay.
Another warning, with a jumper installed, the clutch interlock does not work, DO NOT TURN IGN. TO START unless stepping on clutch or car is not in gear. 94
somehow i knew FCM would come to save me! ha ha yea... while drunk on my eggnog earlier i thought about that.. just jump a wire and see if it starts while car is in neutral with parking brake on, looks like thats what i will be doing tomorrow since i gotta get up early and hit the road.. it just bothers me how i have 12.xx v's without a load, once the wire is on the solenoid (load) this voltage drops down, i guess its induction related, i'm going to search my wiring diagram for the relay. It is an intermitten issue though, because after 20 or so cranks it will crank up, but very VERY faintly at first, not the usual, contact and crank!, it almost studders to start since the problem began last night, but guys i appreciate the quick response and idea's, they should do me some good in the A.M., i will update tomorrow evening.
ok, prob was that when i put my new starter in, i had pulled the main 4 AWG power wire loose from the post terminal, when i got out there the next morning and could actually get my meter on it, i realized i lost that connection. so i didn't have the problem of that wire being loose till the new one was one, its fixed now so all is well.
