Default putting the D16a head on a b18b

My friend's Integra's head is slowly dying, shes very low on funds but her next door neighbor is really good with cars and has offered to do the labor for free. How difficult would it be, and has it been done?

well unless he is a magician i would say its impossible. d series not compatible with b series. another reason is the d16a is sohc and b18b is dohc.

Of course if you meant b16a on a b18b then its a whole different story

putting a d-series head on a b-series motor? is that even possible....? i would've thought the parts were incompatible.

Its the DOHC version of the d16a, im just wondering, I always thought the two would be incompatible but im just asking to see if it could be done.

Well its between just buying the block or buying everything for it. the b18b is a relatively cheap engine, so she'll probably end up swapping that ininstead. But what would be involved in doing this swap or is it just so hard, there would be no point?

Someone asked this same question some time ago on resource.crx.org. And one response to this showed a picture of some zip ties, JB Weld, and Bazooka bubble gum. This is about what you would need to pull off such a head swap.

Yeah, hey, I'm the friend. b18b?? I wasn't thinking about that, but maybe, I'm not sure. Hmmm.... damn. I hate my car, it can go to hell, it's pretty much held together by bubble gum and zip ties at this point.
Yeah, and Otto, I'm not sure I even have the funds for a b18b block, even if that would work.

They didn't make it for very long, the d16a1 was in the 86-87 Integras with DOHC 113 hp, and the d16a6(has 5 more hp, slightly higher compression pistons) was in the 88-89.

I like to think they didn't make it for long because of the fact that I've known quite a few people by now that had some problems with the engines. But mine, I guess, just wasn't taken care of before I bought it.

Then just the next in the d-series was the opposite, pretty much, as opposed to the DOHC non-vtec, they made a SOHC VTEC(d16z6) and it got MUCH better gas mileage and everyone loved it more.

I'm bitter.
