Pulling tranny apart, should clutch be replaced while I'm at it?
I'm removing my transmission to investigate a bad throwout or pilot bearing. Some people have advised be to replace the pressure plate and clutch as well as turning down the flywheel as long as I have the tranny out.
The car has only 55K on it (although I learned to drive stick on this car) and the clutch shows no signs of slipping.
Should I bother? Also, can a flywheel be turned down on a manual lathe?

The flywheel will make more of a diference but sure, while you have it out is a good time to replace it. Taking the trans out with the engine in the car is a pain in the ***.

I would keep it if it's still good cuz my clutch lasted 100,000 miles and on a '96 teg also. But it's always best to replace new parts so u wouldn't have to pull the whole thing apart again. Good Luck.
aww its not that bad.. i replaced my clutch with new pilot bearings and throw out bearing and thre it back on in a grand total of an hour...granted i had a lift to help, i guess that makes a difference

Eh, what does a lift have that a gravel driveway and four jackstands doesn't?
