Default Problem with titanium valve springs&bolsters

Hey guys, I have a question. One of our H-fans(Honda-fans) club members has a CRX Del Sol Vti( B16A2), non turbo, and has stage 2 cams with stage 2 exhaust valve springs( titanium ones). Titanium bolsters. So when head was dismounted, we put've in new cams, valve springs and bolsters. All was fine, ECU has been tuned up to meet the new setup and tested with WBO2 and EGT probe. All ok. Suddenly, after about 3k miles, engine was running on 3 cylinders only. Dismantling the engine revealed the problem - one of the valve spring bolsters was GONE and second one was almost cutted ! This is all on Cyl 1 . See pics:

Do you have any idea what might have caused this? Also, check out the left exhaust saddle, it is pushed almost through the valve spring ! We're putting the stock bolsters back in, but I'm not really happy with this as the vendor of the titanium valve springs says they should be mounted with titanium bolsters only ....

its been known by now that ti-retainers do "wear out" when compared to the stock retainers.....but that usually happen much later than 3000miles. did you friend abuse the engine all the time?

if the engine is not damaged in anyway i would get a whole new set of valve springs and retainers. there are some companies making special coated ti-retainers to help stop the wearing problem. your friend should look into getting a set of good quality stuff. omni, KMS, port flow, ferrea, supertech and crower makes nice ti-retainers and valve springs......

good luck
