powdercoating engine parts?
i dont know if this is the right place to post this but if not tell me where this would get the best response. i am wanting to send my FMIC, Turbo Piping, Valve Cover, and a few small brackets under the hood to get powdercoated. does anyone know a good place to send these to? i want my FMIC, Turbo Piping powdercoated black. then my small brackets powdercoated gunmetal and valve cover powdercoated red. thanks
You should look into powdercoating shops in your area, rather than sending your pieces out of state. It'll be more expensive, and the differences (if any) in quality, will be negligible.
Powdercoating, is a totally different process than regular bodywork/paint. Very hard to screw up.
Call some reputable bodyshops in your area and ask them. I'm positive they will recommend you some very good shops you can go to.

yeah the only good way to color your FMIC is to anodize it, I hope its either going to be black or silver BTW, unless its going to be a cool JDM color like light blue or pink. J/K

naw i was goin with black or gunmetal. more than likely black. cause i dont want it to stick out behind my front bumper i know it will still be noticable but i am tryin to make it as stealth as possible
There was a thread about intercooler efficiency (concerning painting it) a few years ago. It was determined that with low to moderate power levels (less than 400whp or so), the power loss was negligible.
I spent a few minutes trying to find it, but I can't. It was from 2001 or so.

well my power goals with my first build is 450whp...then i am goin to rebuild it after a year and shoot for well over 500whp on 91 octane and 700whp on race fuel.

The paint is no problem but powder coating is very thick. We use a lot of powder coated parts at the shop I work at.Parts are glass beaded prior to coating and the process is finish by baking at around 400 degrees.Make sure the parts are completely cleaned when the come back and there is nowhere for glass bead to hide.Run a tap thru every threaded hole after it comes back.If you can bring the parts in person and go over them with the coater it will save a lot of headaches.

Yea, definatlly have the intercooler anodized, or coated with a thermal dispersant and not powder coated. If you need other parts powder coated, feel free to contact me. I run a powder coating shop and can work out an affordable price for you. I am a honda-tech sponsor and you can find a 20 page thread from me in the sponsors section. I'd be glad to answer any powder coating questions you have, even if you decide to go to a local coater.
Most places who do powder coating usually only specialize in powder coating. Look up metal finishers who do metal polishing or plating, they'll possibly do anodizing or know of a place that does. If you need a price quote on parts PM me or send me an email from my website, http://www.trgcoating.com with a list of parts you want coated and colors you want them. Powders are much less succeptable to fading because of their resistance to UV rays(depends on formulation) and the fact they are a non-pourous coating. Weatherability is usually 10-20 times greater than a liquid payment
