powder coating header
im going to call a powdercoating shop today to get my header powdercoated. has anyone had experience with this, and what would be a good price?? i dont want to get ripped off. thanks
it'll be fine. just make sure they use hi-temp/hi-tech coating, it's good to about 5000º
price depends on the company. every place charges a little different depending on their equipment. for the whole thing your probably looking in between $80-$120

You may want to instead consider ceramic coating. This may be more durable than powdercoating unless there is a special high temp powdercoating.
I had my header ceramic coated several years back after I bought the car it was on- had some slight rust on it- the ceramic coating still looks great and really cleaned it up. Used HPC Coatings in Oklahoma, I believe.

"5000 deg"!? Just how would anyone test that? Doubtful.
i dont know if it was actually "5000 deg.", it was just exaggeration to express the limits of the powdercoat. and for the record stuff much hotter than 5k deg. has been tested.

i called the shop and they said that the coating that they use wont hold up to the temp that they header will get. the header is ceramic and is showing a little bit of rust. does anybody have any other ideas??? i dont want to spent a ton of money because the header was only 175 bucks as it is. i was thinking about wrapping it.
wrapping it will only acccelerate any rusting. the wrap will trap any moisture in there
If you are just looking to coat it to prevent any rust then check out http://www.eastwoodcompany.com. they have a few paints that are designed specifically for exhaust manifolds

There is a shop in upstate NY called Swain Technologies that does high temp coating. They have tons of different stuff and the prices are reasonable. They also offer a very good warranty.

Save up your money and buy a new header that is already "hot-jet" coated!
The main reason that I say this is due to your comment on rust. When any form of coating is done, the header has to be sand blasted first and it's possible that they could blast clear through the rusted area.
Also think about the fact that the interior of the piping can not be sand blasted. As a result, if you get the header Hot Jet coated, the interior coat will not be correct.
Powder coating is not rated to the temperatures that a header can run. They come close, but not quite.
Hot jet coating can be done both inside and outside of the tube. However you will end up paying almost as much to have a single header done as to what a new already coated header costs!
I recently got headers for my Chevelle and purchased them un-coated. The reason was that I wanted to add O2 sensor bungs. I then paid to have them coated. As I recall, it cost a couple hundred for just the coating (bear in mind that this was for 2 headers). If I bought the headers already coated, the additional cost would have only been about 50 bucks. (all this so that I could get O2 sensors)
