Default possible distributor problem

I've been having these problems where my tach just jumps around, from 3 to 1 to 5 to 7, all over the place whenever I'm driving. Even when I'm idling, like if the radiator fan comes on or something. I was told it's probably the ignitor, I just want to make sure that it could only be the ignitor or something inside the distributor. Could be anything else? It does mis really bad, but would any possible fuel problems cause that or could it only be distributor related? I just want to make sure before I go spend $600 for a distributor from acura. Thanks in advance.

Are the wire connections on the igniter good and tight?

would the distributor rotor or cap cause this to happen? I also have a kill switch on my fuel pump for anti theft purposes, could that cause a problem if the wiring started to **** up? or the pcv?

ok, u say the tach moves up and down when u drive and even when u are at idle. do u feel the engine actually doing the same thing? if it were the ignitor then i think you would actually feel it. if not, then it could be just the wiring on the tach. get some courage and take the cluster off to see any loose connections. i dont think your "anti-theft device" would be the problem. and a word of advice, i would try and not mention exactly what kind of kill switch u have. good choice in trying to trouble shoot, but not quite. check the tach wiring.

The engine definitely misses. when I get on it it misses, the take does bounce around while I'm not on it though. Going to check ignitor wiring today. So I'll let you know how that looks, but I don't see how the wires on the ignitor could come loose... I guess bumpy roads could do it...not too sure.

ive had two problems related to the distributor. one was when the actual distributor when dead, and i too felt the ingine misfire. another was when 2 of the 3 bolts that hold the distributor had come off and it was only hanging by one bolt. its not hard taking the distributor off. check inside the distributor to see if there is any metal like build up. also, i recently thougth i was having a distributor problem cuz i felt it misfire again. turns out one of the fuel injector connectors was kinda loose. try to check everything. good luck.
