wideband oxygen sensor questions
<~~ need to replace the o2 sensor, wondering if its worth it to replace it using that DIY wideband O2 sensor.
Are there any benefits to just upgrading the stock o2 sensor for everyday use w/o major performance tuning? Will it increase the precision the stock fuel control system has vs a stock o2 sensor? Better power/fuel economy?

there was a discussion regarding this a little while ago. the stock ECM has no provision for the wideband sensor, unless you have the VX (i believe) for which the sensor is stock. replace your sensor with the regular Bosch sensor and build a wideband Lambda unit for tuning if you want.

Its not an 'upgrade' its a completely diferent sensor design. all standard 4 wire O2 sensors are basically the same design and they all perform the same way. If your sensor is old and clogged with carbon you should replace it with the same type but the wide band 5 wire sensor from the VX won't work and wont give any performance advantages.
There have been posts about the DIY wide band sensor for tuning purposes but I don't know if anyone has been able to replace the stock O2 snesor with a wide band and gotten it to work with the stock ECU. I'm curious about that actually so if anyone has anything to add to this thread please post away

sorry to drag up an old post, just curious if the wideband o2 could be used with a stock p28? are the voltage readings the same as the stock o2? and what range do they have?
no the wideband o2 can not be used with a stock p28. A wideband needs a wideband controller to operate properly. Most widebands have a 0-5 volt output that can be logged for tuning purposes. I believe the output from the stock o2 varies from 0-1 volt?
