1. No, creates a box for air to spin and twirl around in and hurts performance. Get a test pipe or a free flowing cat.

2. A spare head to practice on first, a high speed dremel and aluminum cutting bits of various sizes.

There is a lot more to porting a head then just taking away material, if you do too much or take away in the wrong parts you are just going to end up making things worse... I always gotta recommend Portflow, Tom does awesome work and each head is put checked after on a flowbench... Peace

Set aside about 1000 hours to learn from someone who is reputable. That is if they have the time and are willing to teach.

Porting is something that takes alot of commitment to learn. If your just wanting your head done then it would be best to pay someone who knows what they're doing to do it for you. If it's something that your wanting to learn and possibly do to make a living from then see above.

start by buying a flow bench, Or have a prof do it. I reccomend "Progressive Automotive" here in the Seattle Wa area.

About the cat, don't hollow it out. it will actually hurt your performance compared to the stock cat.

I got DIY port/polish kit from powerhouse tools. They have tons of porting stuff.

Powerhouse is located here in Memphis right next to ZEX. They have an 8" extension rod (sold seperately) thats good to have so you can do your intake manifold while your at it.

I have ported 2 heads and you can definatey tell the difference in power aferwards.
