Default port & polish

FYI I did do a search:
What is Port and Polishing? do they bore out your valves, then make them polished in that they are smooth? sorry if this seems like a novice ignorant question but well i 'm a novice to this stuff... Thanks in advance...

Porting and polishing smooths out the intake and exhaust runners on the head, allowing a higher volume of air in the combustion chamber, it also helps to smooth down the runners, so that the delivery of air is smoother and faster. The more mods you have, the more this will help.

gotcha.... I take it this is kinda exspensive? is there a good time to do this , as in would it be better to do it when you have no mods or all the bolt-ons. how long does it take a shop to genrally do this?

It can take a shop from 1 day to 1 week. Porting a polishing does NOT always produce power. In some cases it lowered horsepower. But of course this might not allpy to you. I would recommend finding someone with same engine, same mods whom done a pnp. Either intake manifold, or head. See where the best gains are, then search performance shops for best prices. Be careful, some places are really shady...

usally you get better gains w/ pnp when you have better cams and/or higher compression
