Default popping during acceleration?

This is not something that happened to me, but I was wondering what could cause a constant popping noise during acceleration? A friend of mine described it in a car he heard and he claims it was the exhaust (Apex'i Dunk) which I think is bs.. I'm guessing they were pinging/detonating or had some other engine problems. Anyone have any ideas? I wish I could describe the sound better, he just said it was a constant pop-pop-pop.

it could be a misfire? check your wireset, and distributor cap and rotor assembly make sure all spark plug wires are in good condition and snug fitted. it wouldnt hurt to check the plugs either. it has happened to me. check that out first and go from there.......

Could be a backfine in the intake manifold due to valves not totally seating...
