I'm wondering if you have been happy with your MSD setup, or had issues, what are you running, just plain coil, box and coil etc, my current setup I'm going to run has an MSD 6-T box with the soft touch rev control, plus a GM blaster type coil, similar to stock, I mainly wanted to run this for the multiple sparks at the lower RPMS and the rev control, since I dont have any stock
mostly noobs use msd on Hondas now. since its been figured out way long ago that stock ignition works great unless its a full on race car custom everything
and for that we have coilon plugs that seems to be working better than msd ignition

U core type coils are much better. factory is a u core type. my original system was super simple, everything in the dizzy, switched ground directly to the coil. i wanted a little bit more energy since I m going to have pretty high compression, and there was the lack of any kind of rev limit

what was the issue and what type of coil did you have? I've heard a lot of complaints about the round blaster coils, apparently if you can find a vintage one they are dead reliable, but the ones made in mexico are crap. I've seen issues with them being mounted sideways, since the oil leaks out of the case, and they overheat

it was 2 round coils that went out on me before I replaced it with stock ignition
since were on topic has anyone tested the accel yellow high output coil vs stock one?
I had one of those too and it worked but to tell if it was better who knows...
some people say Hyundai is a racecar.. and single cam is fast
it seems that round coils had very high failure rate when used in Hondas

I know the issue with the round coils, they were designed for low revving american engines, they work fine on them, but they dont do well at higher rpm. it's just an inherent issue with round coils, thats why the different types of cores were invented. you'll see manufacturers claiming their coils are good to 8-9000 rpm, but no round coil can produce anywhere near full output at that rpm, they become so saturated that the field wont collapse fast enough to generate spark properly
I have had the "round" MSD Blaster coil and MSD cap/rotor on my 94RS for over 7 years, without a single problem.
What we find at out shop, [Dave Ward Auto Electric] is most of the problems in Honda/Acura using MSD is no resistor is used. 94

My instructions didnt call for a ballast resistor what is interesting, and im not sure if they still do this, a lot of the honda coils have a 2.2 k current limiting resistor between the coil negative and the tach wire, its inside of the coil case, since on mine that would be coming straight off the igniter negative to coil, which is now the msd trigger, ill wire it back in, i dont need the tach out since everything on mine was originally tapped off that negative and resistor

That is how I have my blaster coil wired, but still have the resistor...

I ran MSD on my race/ street in the 80s. I had very limited success with three systems. They worked for a little more than a year (daily) then began overheating for no reason (6A/6AL/6A w boostcontrol) and left me stuck.
No more MSD for me.
Maybe they are better now, I doubt it though.
I still use their coils.
